My main desktop computer's Norton AntiVirus expired today. Symantec would not allow me to buy another renewal to download virus definitions for Norton AntiVirus 2001. Symantec forced me to buy, download and install Norton AntiVirus 2004.

Five hours later I have my computer back from the dead!

Norton LiveUpdate wouldn't work, then corrupted itself, then caused the computer to refuse to boot, and lots of other horrifying, ugly nastiness.
I used every last hacker skill I possess to resolve this. The computer has now survived three reboots and three runnings of LiveUpdate, but I'm still on edge.

I'm not putting any additional Symantec products on any of my computers, and will switch antivirus companies on the other machines when Symantec abandons the programs now running on them. I'm urging those I care about to consider following suit.

(This always has been a very clean computer with no known problems of any
sort.)

Rex
